Are you a Bay-Area media-making teen looking for opportunities to explore California?
Join OUTDOOR EXPOSURES this September for an all-expenses paid trip to Monterey County, focused on food, farmworkers and the environment.
WHEN: The weekend of September 20 to 22
WHERE: Monterey County
*Travel from the Bay to the Monterey Coast and explore the shoreline with a ranger.
*Stay two nights in cabins
*Visit a cooperative organic farm.
*Visit farmworkers and learn firsthand from them about their lives.
*Meet authors and photographers and learn about their storytelling experiences
WHY: Urban teens who are making media and those interested in food/farming/environment get a chance to get out of the city and see parts of California during these formative years. OUTDOORS EXPOSURES is designed to provide such experiences at no cost so teens can expand their horizons and gain insight into important California issues.
YOU: are a teen aged 13-18, have some prior experience with digital media (video, photography) or writing (blogging, journalism), are mature and able to work well with other teens. Interest or experience in the areas of food, sustainability or the environment. You must attend a pre-trip orientation in the East Bay. The media you make during this trip can be part of your portfolio.
WHO we are: OUTDOORS EXPOSURE is a pilot project through Silkworm Media, and is funded through a grant by Foundation for Youth Investment. Silkworm Media engages in transformational projects for individuals and communities.
